2014’s Oscar Race Is Officially Underway – Behold “Birdman!”
“There are streaks of 42nd Street, The Producers and Sunset Boulevard here, but otherwise, Birdman isn’t much like anything else at all. Think Black Swan directed by Mel Brooks and you’re in the vicinity, but only just.”
That’s the headline of The Daily Telegraph’s review of “Birdman”, which hurdles to the top of my “MUST SEE” list, and Oscar’s 2014 race!
Get Ready To See “Birdman” Soar!
Michael Keaton is poised to soar once again – “Birdman” has just been screened at the Venice film festival to rapturous reviews…check out the trailer:
Wow! I cannot wait to see this movie! It has already become one of the most “buzzed about” films for fall – and Academy Award consideration for the film and of course Michael Keaton’s tour de force performance….
Michael Keaton is Riggan Thompson, a former “superhero superstar” who goes to New York to act in a stage adaptation of Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”.
It’s the Actor’s last ditch attempt to regain his stardom – and come to terms with his own life…and as you can see, it doesn’t go well…
“Birdman” was shot on Broadway, and has a terrific supporting cast. Edward Norton plays a cocky star brought in to goose the box office, and Emma Stone is Keaton’s daughter.
Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis also star, but this is clearly a vehicle for Michael Keaton, and as you can already see, he looks amazing in the role…
The 2014 Oscar Race Is On!
“Birdman” is already getting lots of press for its scathing look at pop culture and celebrity, and it clearly is going to be a formidable competitor at this year’s Academy Awards. The film is directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who was the Director of Photography on last year’s “Gravity”, which was a big Oscar winner as well…
Of course, Michael Keaton has a great history as a superhero, as he was “Batman” for two films in the 80’s – films that helped reignite America’s passion for super heroes….but Keaton is a very under-appreciated comedic actor who is overdue for awards:
Michael Keaton was terrific in such comedy classics as “Beetlejuice” and “Night Shift”, with his classic line “I’m an idea man, Chuck!”
And of course, he became a superstar with “Batman” and his comic brilliance in the 80’s pop culture classic – “Mr. Mom”:
If you want to see how understated Michael Keaton can be as an Actor, check out his small role in Steven Soderbergh’s classic “Out Of Sight”…a perfectly subtle performance…
Kudos to Michael Keaton, and good luck to “Birdman” as the 2014 Oscar season heats up – look for this movie to soar!
